Famous for its mosaiques and buildings from the 3rd century AD. It is the ancient Philippopolis Roman emperor Philippus Arabs, whose origins were there, re-built in the years 244 – 249.

It is said that Shahba as the only city in Syria was completely re-built and is considered one of the major architectural testimonies of Syria's reign rule in the East.

When Philipp the Arab died in 249, the city had not yet been achieved. Thereafter, the city was populated by Druze.
