Near Afrin, there are still two practicable Roman bridges. Both are in excellent condition and may be passed by small buses and cars.

The region north to Aleppo, particularly that around Afrin, is known for its olive-trees and the olive-oil that is pressed there.

The Afrin river is used in different ways; like in ancient days, the fresh-shorn wool is washed in the river and then exposed on the banks for drying.
